If you have patience...... did I say, patience...? Then lilypond may
work for you.

It can definitely handle complex polyrhythms. It's great if you like
composing on paper and then transferring to a pretty publish-able
score. (Unlike Finale/Sibelius, that try to be composing
environments.)

abcm2ps is an ascii-to-score translator. nice output. works for me.
