Thanks for asking Dan. I'm still thinking of putting one on. It would
be next May.

The focus would be primarily on chamber musics. Two people (Mark
Enslin, Tommy Scheurich) are supposedly writing chamber music which is
so far involving trombone and cello and udderbot and slide whistles. I
know Jon L Smith expressed interest in additional instruments and I
would say if you keep it reasonable it's highly possible that I can
round up the performers.

That said I want this concert to consist of fewer more substantial
pieces as opposed to many many short snippets. If I could get a good
idea by Jan. 15 or so who's interested I could make further plans from
there.

If there is a lot of music just for pianos that you want to write and
have tried out, I want to have a phase two-and-a-half recording
session (not concert). Already an unplayed piece by Tom Price waiting
on this effort.

So, figure yourself out by Jan. 15.

Speaking of udderbot, www.udderbot.com is at week 2 of existence. It
is quite the infant. I hope to soon add sound files and a composer's
guide to writing for the instrument so I can begin asking y'all for
microtonal udderbot pieces!

In the meantime, suck on this miniature march for 17-tone pianos 8
hands played last Monday:

<www.owlnet.rice.edu/~jbarton/17tpp/onward1.mp3>

and score:

<www.owlnet.rice.edu/~jbarton/17tpp/onward.pdf>

It's recorded at a low level that will no doubt sound terrible on your
computer speakers. I don't think it's that great and you shouldn't
either! The full 9 minute version will perhaps come next year.

greetings,
jacob

ps. so is next entire year MMMYear or what?!!?!?!

Any hope of getting you to switch to 34 instead?

24 out-of 34 isn't too shabby, though.

So...the string trio (violin, viola, cello), maybe another cello,
trombone(s) (whom I haven't asked yet), double bass is likely, slide
whistle/udderbot, vocalists, provided they can be made to *hear* it...

digital keyboards (not generalized, so you'd have to provide a
scordatura/tablature part) are a possibility too, to
trigger...whatever we can rig up with our fancy equipment, any tuning
goes...

We have clarinets, bassoons, oboes, flutes, trumpets, horns, but no
foolproof way to detwelvulate them. I might have a slide clarinet by
then, but no counting on that. On the other hand a piece halfway
between 12 and 17 might interest you.

As to the overall tuning question. What about 17-WT? Any additional
interest if I did that? Compatible enough for music written with
17-EDO in mind to sound okay?

There are two MORE pianos, really awful baby grands that match even
more poorly, that I can probably do whatever with. I was thinking of
preparing or bowing them to alleviate the awfulness of sound. But
what tuning? the 34-edo complement of the extant 17? 22? 19?
Blackjack? Eikosany?
