I've been negligent on the Microtonal Podcast lately, but I hope to
get another one or two up in the next few days. I've picked out a
dozen or two pieces to include, and received permission from Hudson
Lacerda, Dante Rosati, Aaron Krister Johnson, and Jon L. Smith, but
still lack word from Shaahin Mohajeri (For My Daughter, Baran 1 & 2),
Margo Shulter (O Europae), and Daniel Wolf (retunedsands.mid: Clarinet
sands.MID tuned by Scala). Sorry to intrude on the list, but I don't
think I have accurate email addresses for the three of you. If all
goes well, I'll try to keep to a schedule again.

Dear Prent,

Please let me thank you for making these podcasts possible, and joyfully
confirm that indeed I would be most honored to have O Europae included. My
only regret is that I didn't check my e-mail in a more timely fashion so
that I could have replied with my permission more quickly, rather than
only two days after your original inquiry was sent. However, it's a
pleasure to say publicly what a service you are performing for us all.

More generally, anything I post here is available for podcasting under
something like the GNU Public License, and I'm wondering if I could give
you some general permission that would apply to any future events of this
kind. My concern is that if I were away from home, or simply happened not
to see e-mail in timely fashion, I wouldn't want that to interfere with
this most worthy endeavor or an opportunity to participate.

Peace and love,

Margo

I take it this gives permission also to put your stuff on a bittorrent
virtual disk?

I like this idea, and think I'll join and be officially public licensed.
Maybe we could have a file of people who give licensing permissions.

One effective way is to include a reference to the Creative Commons
license in the ID3 tag of the MP3 file. I know it's kind of geeky, but
it is one way of ensuring that your license goes with the file no
matter who downloads it. You can pick the license level you want here:
http://creativecommons.org/licenses/

For example, if you'd like your music shared, but not altered, pick
the "no derivatives" license. If you'd prefer to allow sharing and
mixing, pick the Share-Alike license. There's no fee. You just need to
include a pointer to the license language in the ID3 tag of the MP3
file. There are ID3 tag editors on the web. I use ID3-TagIT.

Good idea. I added a Creative Commons license to my Comcast page where I've got my more recent MP3 files.

Now if I can figure out how to add them to the MP3 files...
