Carl, you wrote:

Thanks for the info. How did you articulate the violin line?
Was it played from a keyboard?

Carl, everything heard on the audio file was composed and rendered with
the Harmony Assistant program alone. The software plays music from a
virtual score and offers a number of "palettes" with dynamics and
articulation marks -- crescendo, marcato, staccato and so on -- that the
user can usually define and notate in that score. These are performed on
playback.

Cameron -- I used the word "atonality" for want of a more precise
description, really. "Hyperchromatic" is probably more accurate. I
certainly felt some harmonic movement, ebb and flow -- though I'm unable
to define it analytically. I could provide the score if you want to take
a look.

You entered the notes with a mouse?

Yes, though you can also use a keypad or MIDI keyboard. One begins a
composition by selecting or creating a score template -- orchestra,
string quartet, piano or what have you -- then entering notes with the
mouse, adding dynamics/articulation, tempo or key changes, etc. The
score is saved and can be printed to hard copy or PDF (for example). Get
the demo here (fully functional but saving is disabled, printing limited
to one page):
