Scala + Absynth/Reaktor

Anyone use Native Instrument Synths for microtonal
music?

I'm starting to get the hang of Scala, but now I'm
trying to send scales to NI Reaktor and NI Absynth3.
A dialogue comes up saying that "this model exports a
text file, save instead?" and I click Yes. After I
save the file, how do I get it loaded into either of
these programs? In Absynth3, I've saved the file
(.gly format I think) in the library/tuning folder
then tried to open it in the program. The name of the
scale shows up where it's supposed to, but when I
select it nothing happens. In Reaktor, I don't even
know where to save the scale...
Any help on this would be appreciated.
Thanks!
K

I don't know the answer, but have you seen the new stuff NI just put
out? Absynth 4, FM 8, and some new synth called Massive
(microtonal?).

Yeah, I just saw the ads for the new bundled package
and it looks beautiful. So far I've only worked with
Absynth and Reaktor (for all of about 25 minutes), but
I'm pretty sure that everything they put out can be
microtonal, but that usually either means using their
factory presets (which are actually better and more
numerous than other synths I've dealt with) or mucking
through their retuning system - detuning note by note
in cents, not ratios. Scala says it can export to
Reaktor and to absynth, I'm just having a little
trouble actually doing it because the scala docs don't
give step by steps for each synth and the NI people've
probably never even heard of Scala, let alone mention
it in the manuals... I'm gonna keep messing around
with it and might get lucky on my own, but if there is
anyone out there who can save me some time... Thanks!

I've found the scala guy to be responsive to emails.

I don't use Scala to make scales for Absynth -- there may be a way to do it, but I seem to remember that Scala just exports a text file that you need to copy and paste into the Absynth scale editor (on the MIDI tab) one note at a time. I use the OpenOffice spreadsheet to calculate pitches in semitones for each note in the scale, then copy and paste notes into Absynth. Since I use scales with a period of repetition (usually an octave or a fraction of an octave), I can set the "Keys per 8ve" and "8ve interval" to the appropriate size for the scale I'm using and only need to copy the notes for a single period of the scale.

Joe,

I just want to double-second this. Manuel Op de Coel has been a long time member of the tuning forums, and many, many of the features in Scala are in direct response to this community. Scala is the single largest gift to the tuning community I can think of, and we owe Manuel a big debt of gratitude.

Cheers,
Jon

I tried out the absynth 3 standalone demo, and put the gly file in
the tuning folder like you said, and it worked fine for me.
