Hello, everyone, and I am pleased to share some news about an exciting
program for Sagittal notation.

Over the past month, Hudson Lacerda's microabc has added features to
refine and simplify the production of PostScript or PDF scores and
MIDI files using Sagittal notation. This archive of examples in the
Peppermint 24 temperament shows some of the capabilities of the recent
release microabc-2006-07-29:

The example files in microabc or .abp format show how it is possible
to take either the lower or the upper keyboard of Peppermint as the
reference for a given piece, thus possibly minimizing the need to use
complex Sagittal accidentals. Please note that an .abp file is not
itself an abc file, but rather an "abc before processing" file from
which microabc generates abc files for use by abcm2ps to produce a
PostScript score, or by abc2midi to produce MIDI files.

The Peppermint Sagittal notation mapping files have also been updated
to support the spelling of any small semitone or thirdtone step (sizes
of around 59, 70, and 80 cents) as either a minor second of some kind
or an alteration equivalent to an Arabic half-flat or half-sharp or a
Persian koron or sori. See the file peppermint-key1-notes.txt in the
archive for more on this feature, which can help when one wants to
notate Near Eastern modes with Sagittal symbols corresponding more
closely to those of an Arabic or Persian notation.

Of course, while the PostScript, pdf, and MIDI files in the archive
can be used without microabc, the purpose of the archive is to
encourage people to try Hudson's great program if they are so
inclined. To get the latest microabc version, please visit:
