Hi Margo,

I hope you don't mind my posting my analysis of the
tuning of your "invoc4a.mid" piece.

Once again, I performed "surgery" on Margo's MIDI-file
and discovered the secrets of her tuning. I sent it
to her a few hours ago and she verified that it's correct.

The tuning used is a variation on Vicentino's adaptive-JI:

[ST = Semitones,
cawapu = pitch-bend, 4096 units per Semitone,
MTgen = 1/4-comma meantone generators,
' = 1/4-comma higher]

ST cawapu MTgen note

11 1201 -7' Cb'
11 981 -7 Cb
11 -481 5' B'
10 280 -2 Bb
9 1482 -9' Bbb'
9 1261 -9 Bbb
9 -200 3' A'
9 -420 3 A
8 561 -4 Ab
8 -1121 8 G#
7 1762 -11' Abb'
7 1542 -11 Abb
7 -140 1 G
5 360 -1' F'
5 140 -1 F
4 1341 -8' Fb'
4 1121 -8 Fb
4 -340 4' E'
4 -561 4 E
2 1622 -10' Ebb'
2 -280 2 D
1 701 -5 Db
1 -981 7 C#
0 1902 -12' Dbb'
0 1682 -12 Dbb
0 220 0' C'
0 0 0 C

Here is the actual tuning again, specified as two 1/4-comma
meantone cycles a 1/4-comma apart, given in terms of generators:

-12' -11' -10' -9' -8' -7' -1' 0' 3' 4' 5'
Dbb' Abb' Ebb' Bbb' Fb' Cb' F' C' A' E' B'

-12 -11 -9 -8 -7 -5 -4 -2 -1 0 1 2 3 4 7 8
Dbb Abb Bbb Fb Cb Db Ab Bb F C G D A E C# G#

Apologies for not having more time for this right now, and
it looks like I won't be able to figure out the "Darregian"
aspect, despite my previous claims. :(

But the puzzle certainly hooked me for a few hours!

Isn't it amazing what you can do with a MIDI-file and
a little knowledge of this stuff? :)

love / peace / harmony ...
