Stephen, it is not so much a question of the role of God in Bach's motivation to compose, or even as to his genius. J.S. Bach was genetically pre-disposed, if not designed to compose, by all the family members that both produced him and nurtured him. If anyone could be said to have a destiny to be a powerful composer, it was J.S.B.
