John,

JICalc is not compatible with G3 Macs as you have
probably discovered and it is also unable to work with
USB Macs as it uses the old Serial Manager only.

My Li'l Miss Scale Oven is the only software I know of
that will work for you. It runs on 9.1 and is fully
compatible with OMS. It uses its own file format, and
also imports Scala format files. It's a robust
commercial program, and even displays the scale
graphically. Scales can be edited in cents, ratios or
equal-divisions and converted among the various
representations. Contact me if you are interested.

Oops! I jumped the gun.

John asked about *music* software, not tuning software.

Sorry!

I recommend Cubase VST -- it's a really good sequencer
and digital audio recorder, with realtime effects and
high quality built in EQ and all sorts of great stuff.
Also their development team is extremely responsive to
suggestions. It's well worth the price Steinberg asks
and a sound investment for any Mac music studio.

iTunes for playing mp3s has fantastic synchronised-to-music visuals. I
think it's a free download. If you have some dosh, then Cubase and
Recycle on the Mac are a very smooth trip. Jeff Scott's LMSO is a first
rate microtonal resource. It cooks up tunings and sends them to your
synth. Very stable and good support from Jeff. Jeff is or was on the
list. Those should keep you going.

Kind Regards
