Hey, I can remember composing on the New York subway
during my college days! Those old trains (they've been
upgraded now) were *so* noisy that I found that the loud
wall of "white noise" blocked out all other sounds around
me and made it easy to concentrate on the sounds I heard
in my head.

I found this comment very amusing, because it made me think
right away of how my idol Mahler squeezed all of the composition
of his vast symphonies into his 6-week summer vacations. :)
