Could you please explain "EDL" and "ADO"? I'm not familiar with the terms.

Again, I'd love higher audio quality. The choir seems to
let you down, from a timbral perspective. The percussion
in the dream piece works very well, though!

I'll give it another couple of spins later tonight when I have more time, but this is very different from the kind of thing we usually hear here.

To all the nonsense here: I have uploaded both the ogg and mp3. They have approximately same size. So anybody can tell the difference.

And I forgot to write about the tuning... Can anybody guess?

The tuning sounds like it might be a regular temperament of some sort where
the fifths are sharp.

The piece definately is cool in its incessant rhythmic drive and energy, but
it is also unsettling at the same time--hardy something to calm down and
relax to! The vocals are especially serial-killer-esque...the whole effect
was for me very dark--very different from what we are used to around here!

1) My raw lyrics translation. Apologise my English. I hope the author will not find it here...

Pins
The can is glisten in the light
I rise it slowly over my head
Carefully..., higher..., even higher
I stand on my toe-tips
Carefully..., higher..., even higher
I stretch my arm
And then - I pour out the pins on the floor
They are falling to the darkness
Falling from the height and gently tinkling against the floor
And another day went by
And another day

2) I will explain later. Waiting for more tries.

3) This piece was created in 80's for the alternative rock band. I like minimalism so I have conceived it naturally. I have more of pieces like this, most of them in 12edo.

BTW, I use the term EDO in the sense Equal Division Of. So 12tet is 12edo2 or 12edo1200c, BP et is 13edo3 etc. What do you think about this?

to me.

Great! You've got it!
It was originally written in 12edo. It has form ababab..., a is sequence of dim chords: Cdim, C#dim, D#dim, Edim, etc., b is based on Cmi6 chord.
The asymmetry of a progression led me to shift every second chord quarter tone higher to place it in between the other chords. Two dim chords makes 8edo. In part b only the fifth from Cmi6 is 1/4tone risen. Cello is live with intonation correction using Elastic audio in Samplitude.
Live guitar was recorded in two takes, using ordinary guitar. Original 12edo dim sequence was recorded in one take and the 8edo Cmi6 with some retuned strings in the second. Every second chord from take 1 was shifted using Samplitude
Keyboard - organ (Korg M3r) and clavinet-like sound (Yamaha VL-70m) were played live on retuned synths.
Drums and bass (Roland SC-55) were step-sequenced.
Voice was recorded independently, without any relation to music. It was the slowed down many times (8 or so) with no pitch manipulation.
Thats all.

Thanks to all for the positive response.

And one more off-topic theme: what about lossless compression. I think mp3 or ogg are good as preview or for mobile players, but I prefer lossless formats (FLAC) for archiving. It gives me the possibility to recompress or decompress it in the future without loss of quality. But it is probably theme for another group. Sorry.

Hi Milan,

I just now got to play your piece, which I did download when you
first posted it, but it had to wait until the weekend.

I couldn't have picked the tuning. There's so much rhythmic energy
there, my mind was fully absorbed tracking percussion.

On compression: I think that with the kinds of textures you've got
here, the artefacts that Ogg Vorbis (what settings?) will have
introduced are possibly not very important. But of course, we'd
have to hear the uncompressed version to see whether we notice any
difference.

Keep on MMM!

Yahya

Ogg is quality 5, mp3 is 128kb.
I can upload FLAC, but it is big (80MB+). Let me know.
