Kraig,
I downloaded and enjoyed your "canon for hohvaness", but at the end of the 10.3MB file, it cut off rather abruptly. Is the file bad? You might compare what you expected with what is up on the site.

I'd like to podcast this, GendingAptos, Haiti, and the Calm Rush, in an All Grady Podcast. Would you grant your permission for these pieces?

yes go ahead.
i will reload the hohvaness.
It is hard for me to check because it takes me an hour to download something this big with dialup.
Maybe the short crickets piece should go up too since so many seemed to like it.
Thanks for the support.
I always find it strange what people like and don't where as the thingsi think work the best others don't and vice versa.
Do you have this happen?

Kraig,

I know you said this was meant to be off-list, but you're right - its an interesting side-issue.

{you wrote...}
>I always find it strange what people like and don't where as the things i >think work the best others don't and vice versa. Do you have this happen?

It happens with me pretty regularly, and it can be disconcerting. Since I've written music for a number of different 'purposes', and not solely for my own enjoyment, there have been times where I've had to step out of my skin and write in styles I might not normally choose. When people give quite positive comments on those, and then pieces that I feel more closely aligned with meet with tepid response, it is very hard to ignore, and to not start questioning your own instinctual motivations.

While it is OK to feel good about the success of a commission, unless it is done in a manner that feels akin to your own aesthetic it can present some (long-term) problems. But it is what it is.

Cheers,
Jon
