Difference tones are of supreme importance.

I totally agree.

The difference tones are to my ears of extreme importance.
Obviously the integer frequency ratios are significant when measuring/counting/considering beating.

I'm sorry to say it, but having read Sethare's book, I was extremely disappointed with the whole tome;
especially after all the hype and praise that the tunaniks showered on it.

I was expecting some new thinking.

To my mind the book was merely a rehash of the old "harmonics are only at integer frequency ratios" paradigm, plus some redressed ideas about consonance and dissonance.
As far as constructing scales from the frequency peaks found by fft analysis, and vice versa from timbres; it all seemed either obvious or restatements of "conventional" wisdom.

(For those who are yet to be familiar with my thinking or have already labelled me as a "heretic nut")

I still maintain that "harmonics" beat, and that there are better ways to map "musical harmonics" and con/dissonance than by only using integer frequency ratios greater than 2.

Emphatically YES!

But proving anything, is a little more difficult;-)
