hi Paul.

I've been reading Plomp's writings on the perception of pitch in
complex tones, but can't find his work on the dissonance of intervals
and chords--which is what I assume you're refering to, when you
describe your theory of harmonic entropy as a response to the "Plomp-
Sethares theory". Are there any relavant articles on line? (At UC
Berkeley, the materials are checked out.)

thanks, Kelly

Yes. Plomp and Levelt were the original authors of the relevant paper
in this area, which Sethares and others took up in their way later.

Searching the web never hurt, but you can't always trust secondary
sources.

I think you should wait for the materials to be returned to the
library, or try a different library. Better yet, just get the latest
edition of Sethares's book, which comes with a CD so you'll have some
audible demonstrations to listen to.
