just a quote i found in terhardt's article that shows he thinks much
like i do about one issue:

by harmonic complex tones are not too heavily dependent on the shape
of the Fourier spectrum, i.e., timbre.'

if you read the whole article, and as many of the references as you
can, you might begin to see why terhardt and i feel that this should
be the case . . .
