Unfortunately, the results of the validation exercise doesn't look too great
-- the unnormalized total probability has spikes of up to 24% at the
simplest intervals.

Next, I will try to do this _right_ . . .

Heya, Paul,

() Not sure what you mean here... the validation excercise didn't
agree with the graph, so you thought there must by an error in
the graph? I can never keep straight why you call it the validation
excercise -- it's just the normalized Tenney dissonance, right? --
isn't the graph supposed to validate _it_, rather than the other
way around?

() Noticed that the explanation of what a Vos curve is never made
it to this list.

The validation exercise checks that the sum of the unnormalized
"probabilities" is a constant across all cents values. When computing the
entropy function of the "probabilities" for a given cents value, I normalize
the "probabilities" (by dividing by the sum) so that they sum to one. The
validation exercise is meant to insure that this normalization process
ITSELF is not contributing anything significant to the shape of the curve.
In this case, I'm afraid I can't guarantee that.

Search for "Vos" on the tuning list. Basically, it's exp(-|d/t|), where d is
the deviation in cents and t is a constant (which, amazingly, seems to have
little or no effect on the shape of the curve!).

Got it.

Actually, wasn't it MMM?

Goodness, no.

Is that all you have to say?

I'd at least like to learn more about Stieljes whatever.

That's more like it!
